i decided to tell the American Literature/Writing Honors course i am observing what i know about Emerson. I asked them who his audience was, who he wrote for, was it women? servants? people of color? i asked them about self-reliance. They stared at me in shock for a few minutes. Then they had so much to say that they were fighting to talk. i think this is a good sign.
